UNESCO-ICHEI Attends the Launch Ceremony of the Hengqin International Digital-Intelligence Talent Development Base
On 12 January 2026, the "Launch Ceremony of the Hengqin International Digital-Intelligence Talent Development Base and the Opening Ceremony of the First Cohort of the AI and Smart Education Professional Development Programme" was held at the China–Portuguese Economic and Trade Centre in the Hengqin Guangdong–Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone. With the theme "Digital-Intelligence Empowerment · A New Start: Focusing on Practices in Cultivating Digital-Intelligence Productivity Talent", the event, centred on new models of talent development in the context of the deep integration of artificial intelligence and education, established a practice exchange platform for digital-intelligence talent development serving Latin America and Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking regions. The International Centre for Higher Education Innovation under the auspices of UNESCO (UNESCO-ICHEI), was invited to attend and deliver remarks during the roundtable discussion session.
This event was jointly organized by the China–Portuguese (Spanish) Countries National Economic and Trade Service Centre, ULearning, and Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., with support from the Executive Committee of the Hengqin Guangdong–Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone. It brought together experts, scholars, and programme participants from government departments, universities, international organizations, and enterprises from China and Latin America.
Mr. JIN Shanguo, Chairman of ULearning, stated that Chinese institutions, including UNESCO-ICHEI, have abundant resources in AI application training for Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America. He looks forward to deepening cooperation with relevant parties to jointly support talent development in Latin America. Ms. BI Xiaohan, Deputy Director of UNESCO-ICHEI, stated that the cutting-edge "AI+" micro-credential training series courses developed by UNESCO-ICHEI will be open to Latin American teachers, students, and practitioners in the science and technology sector. UNESCO-ICHEI hopes to join hands with the Hengqin International Digital-Intelligence Talent Development Base to further expand cooperation with Latin American universities and jointly contribute to talent cultivation in Latin America.
